Wer Spaß an lustigen Beförderungsmitteln hat, ist in Mumbai genau richtig:
Gerne und oft benutzten Lea, Julien und ich die kleinen, wendigen Rickshaws.
Diese Gefährte wurden oft, so schien es jedenfalls, nur vom Dreck und den Gebeten ihres Besitzers zusammen gehalten. Die mangelnde Verkehrstauglichkeit, glichen die Fahrer durch Vollgasfahrten und lautes hupen aus. Scheinbar schienen sie immer dann schlecht Englisch sprechen zu können, wenn es darum ging einen Preis auszuhandeln.
Bahnfahren, war kostengünstig und ein Erlebnis für sich. Zunächst reihten wir uns brav in die meterlangen Schlangen vor den Schaltern ein, wo „Zeit“ eine ganz neue Qualität zu bekommen schien…
Das Ticket in die Stadt kostete 12 Rupien, was ca. 0,17 Euro entsprach.
Der Zug rollte polternd und quietschend mit geöffneten Türen (diese wurden auch nie geschlossen) in den Bahnhof ein. Noch während der Fahrt sprangen Fahrgäste ab und auf.
Immer wenn sich eine neue Menschentraube an den Zugängen zum Waggon verdichtete und mit ihrer gesamten Kraft hinein drang, wurde es laut und ungemütlich.
In der kurzen Haltezeit, bemühten sich die „Aussteiger“ die Wagons rechtzeitig zu verlassen, während schon wieder eine neue Welle der „Einsteiger“ hereinbrach.
Besonders kompliziert wurde dieser Vorgang noch durch den Umstand, dass die Personen an den Zugängen ihre privilegierten Standorte nicht kampflos aufgeben wollten…
Die Fahrt dauerte dann ca. 1,5 Stunden.
In der Türöffnung hängend konnten wir dann die Landschaften links und rechts der Gleise genießen. Diese bestanden hauptsächlich aus „Wohnungen der weniger Begüterten“, Müll und Gestank von Unrat und Exkrementen.

It seemed, that these vehicles were often held together only of dirt and the prayers of their owners. The lack of road worthiness, the driver matched by fully opening the throttle and out loud honk. Apparently they always seemed to be able to speak english poorly, when it came to negotiate a price.
Rail travel was inexpensive and an experience in itself. First, we joined obediently into the yard-long queues at the counters, where "time" seemed to be getting a new level ...
The ticket to the city was 12 rupees, equivalent to about 0.17 euros.
The train rolled noisily and squealing with the doors open (they were never closed) into the train station. Even while driving, passengers jumped off and on.
Whenever a new crowd of people got compressed at the entrances to the car and pushed with all her strength into it, it was loud and uncomfortable.
In the short holding time, the "drops" tried to leave the cars on time, while another new wave of "newcomers" tried to get in.
This process got more complicated by the fact, that people at the entrances didn’t want to give up their privileged locations without a fight ...
The ride lasted about 1.5 hours.
Hanging in the doorway, we could enjoy the scenery left and right of the track.
